Almost done!  This is my first painting for the
Camp Hill Plein Air Event.  I have been wanting to paint
this pink dogwood for a long time, so I thought
this would be a great way to begin the event.

My daughter, granddaughter Stevie and I were shopping
at the Olde Susquehanna House (in Carlisle, PA)  about a week ago.
As we were leaving, my daughter spotted this amazing wooded
area behind the store's parking lot that was loaded with
blue scilla - one of my favorite Spring flowers.
The day was slightly overcast, but the blue was vibrant!

'Abandoned Homestead'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

I found this old abandoned homestead while
my husband and I were meandering down our local
country roads looking for some good places
to paint.  This farm sat back off the road,
and almost all of the buildings were painted
this brownish-red, and all had been deserted.
It made me sad to think that such a lovely farm
had been abandoned, but I was glad to see that
someone was still farming the land.

'Loving Lilacs'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

Oil on Stretched Canvas

This time of year, especially after a long and harsh
winter, I find myself walking along the edge of our
yard to where I have planted a border of lilacs.
This is my favorite part of the yard, and I love
that I have lilac bushes that come from starts
that were from both my mother and my mother-in-law's
lilac bushes.  It's as if both of them are standing with
me beside those lilacs, basking
in the warm sunlight and breathing in that
luxurious lilac scent.

'Tickled Pink'
An Original Oil Painting

Oil on Canvas Panel

I painted this hanging basket of pink and purple
petunias as a surprise for a very good friend, who also
happens to one of the best collectors of my work. Last
year she bought five pieces to group on a wall in her
home and it just seemed to need one more piece...

Wishing you a very Happy Birthday, Vicki!

'Long Shadows'
An Original Oil Painting

Oil on Stretched Canvas

Last fall I had one of those moments when you
are at the perfect place at the perfect time.
I was so glad that I had my camera and could
capture the long shadows being cast by the hay bales.
The light was so fleeting, but I was able to snap a few
shots and write down some color notes so I could
paint this one in my studio.

A few years ago I got tickets to the July
Gettysburg Battlefield re-enactment celebration
for my husband's birthday.  We were actually watching
a re-enactment of one of the battles when I turned
my head and saw these two women (and the little girl)
re-enactors coming up over a hill.  It was one of those times
where I was so grateful to have camera in hand!

Such an amazing thing to walk through the
gardens of Claude Monet and to see how he
planned each aspect with a painting in mind.
It's an experience I will never forget!

This painting will be available at Brath and Hughes Fine Art, LLC - Gallery
in November/December of 2014 when I will
be having an exhibit of my French Series paintings there.

France Series
'Remembrance'
Gold Beach, Normandy, France
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Remembrance'
Gold Beach, Normandy, France
© Claire Beadon Carnell
Oil on stretched canvas
15 x 30

Some of the most memorable places I saw while in France
were the beaches of Normandy.  It reminded me so
much of the Civil War battlefields I have visited because
there was such a contrast of exquisite beauty with
the realization of the tragedy and heavy loss of life
that took place here during a war (World War II).

Both my father and my father-in-law were soldiers
in France during the war, and I painted this
in remembrance (and love) of them and all that they
did to preserve our freedoms.

This painting will be available at Brath and Hughes Fine Art, LLC - Gallery
in November/December of 2014 when I will
be having an exhibit of my French Series paintings there.

My husband and I like to go on random drives,
arbitrarily selecting which way to turn.  Invariably,
we find the most amazing places and people
this way.  I have always found the backroads
to be the most interesting places to travel.

This painting is currently on exhibit in the
Carlisle Arts Learning Center
Annual Members Show
