'Clouds Over the Codori'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Clouds Over the Codori'
Oil on Archival Linen Panel
12 x 16

I have loved Gettysburg ever since I was in the fifth grade,
and our class took a field trip to the battlefield.  That love
only increased when I started plein air painting on the
battlefield over ten years ago.  The Codori is one of my favorite
farms, and one I have painted multiple times, from different
views, and in different seasons.

'Golden Afternoon'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Golden Afternoon'
Oil on Archival Linen Panel
12 x 16

My husband was driving me around so that I could
get some reference photographs for future paintings.
He was getting tired of driving, so when we drove by this scene
I had to do a drive-by shooting...with my camera!  I was
really pleased that some of the photos came out
well enough that they could be used.  It was an absolutely
beautiful fall evening, and these fields just glowed with
the warmth of the lowering sun.

'Through the Trees (North Mountain)'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Through the Trees'
(North Mountain)
Oil on Archival Linen Panel
6 x 12

I woke up very early one morning at our cabin (before anyone
else in the cabin was awake), and when I walked out on to the
deck, I was greeted with this amazing display of early morning
Autumn color.  A very different color palette for me,
but oh-so-much-fun to paint!

'Late Afternoon Light'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Late Afternoon Light'
(Roots Cut Flower Farm)
Oil on Archival Linen Panel
11 x 14

I recently attended an event at a local flower farm, and
about a week later I contacted the owner and got
permission to come onto the property to take more photographs.
I chose to go in the late afternoon, when the sun was low
and casting a golden glow on everything.  Everywhere I looked,
there was such intense, beautiful color that literally
took my breath away.

I love my job...

'Sunflower Hill'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Sunflower Hill'
Oil on Canvas Panel
12 x 6

An artist friend of mine told me about a sunflower
field that was blooming, and since it was very close
to where my husband and I used to live when we were
first married, we jumped into the car and headed out to take
some pictures.  It was a wonderful evening, and so much fun to
see the sunflowers and all of the other places we went to
in our old stomping grounds - lots of memories,
and lots and lots of changes!!!

'Flower Farm Shadows'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Flower Farm Shadows'

Oil on Raymar Panel
12 x 16

I recently attended an event at a local flower farm, and
while there I decided to walk around the property.
When I saw these rows of gorgeous,
colorful flowers, I knew that this was something I
wanted to paint.  I was so glad that I had brought
my camera with me...I think this is going to be the
first of a 'few'.

'Spring Blossoms in Giverny'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Spring Blossoms in Giverny'

Oil on Archival Linen Panel
10 x 8

Yes, I am still painting pieces from my trip to France,
even though the exhibit that shows the major body
of work I created after my trip is hanging on the walls
of the Carlisle Arts Learning Center.  I love the pathway
and the layers of spring blossoms in this, and it instantly
takes me back to that morning visiting Giverny.

'Lavender Dreams'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Lavender Dreams'

Oil on Archival Linen Panel
11 x 14

Sometimes ideas for paintings come to me in dreams,
and I've often had dreams of fields of lavender.  I enjoyed
recollecting parts of the dream that inspired this painting,
and the peace that filled my heart as I painted.

'Lazy, Hazy Days of Summer'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Lazy, Hazy Days of Summer'

Oil on Archival Linen Panel
9 x 12

I have not published many new paintings recently
because I have been working furiously to create
work for my French Show at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center
this May with fellow artist Donna Barlup.
This is a new painting I created as a result of an online class
I have been taking through the Tuscon Art Academy
with Gabor Zvagrik.  It's been an excellent class with an
exceptional teacher, and I LOVE that they give
online critiques of my work.

'Winter Sunset'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Winter Sunset'
Oil on Archival Linen Panel
6 x 12

Last weekend, we had a major snow storm, and in
the space of about 24 hours we got between 40 - 42 inches
of snow.  After working most of the next couple of days to
help clear the snow from the driveway and the path to my studio,
I came in the house as the light was fading and saw this
spectacular winter sunset from the dining room window.

'Untitled - For Now'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Untitled...For Now'
Oil on Archival Linen Panel
9 x 12

I was commissioned to paint this garden so that it
can be presented to the garden's owners as a surprise
holiday gift.  Every single moment of painting this was a
pleasure, and I will actually miss it when I ship it out
in the next week or so.  When I send it to the client,
it will be titled appropriately - but for now we are
keeping that bit of information under cover!

Love being part of surprises!!!

'Witness'
An Original ACEO Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Witness'
Oil on Gessoed 300 lb D'Arches WC Paper
3.5 x 2.5

I don't usually paint such tiny paintings, but I
have to admit that it was especially fun to create
this little piece.  What I really liked was that even at
this size, I still could see the brushstrokes in the paint!

This painting is available at the
The Drawing Room Gallery, LLC
333 Baltimore Street,  Gettysburg, PA

'Fall Farm Lane'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Fall Farm Lane'
Oil on Linen Panel
6 x 12

We have had one of the most beautiful Fall seasons
this year.  The color has been gorgeous, and the leaves have
seemed to hold on a little longer than usual.  All of this was
the inspiration for this new little painting.

This painting will be available at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center
in Carlisle, PA.

'Gossip Girls'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Gossip Girls'
Oil on Archival Linen Panel
6 x 12

I love the sunny faces of sunflowers, and because
they are almost always grown in patches it seems as though
they have their own little community...one where everyone
knows everyone else...and everyone also knows everyone
else's business!

This painting was done with a limited palette of
Prussian Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Lemon
Yellow and White.  I also used an underpainting mixture
of Ultramarine Blue to block in the dark abstract shapes,
and I really like how bits of it peek through.

'Southern Sunflowers'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Southern Sunflowers'
Oil on Archival Linen Panel
12 x 16

Last Summer, my husband and I took the Auto Train down
to Florida to attend a wedding, and then drove back so
that we could stop and visit family and explore some of the Southern
states on our way home.
We were driving through Georgia when I spotted an old
barn and fields of sunflowers, and knew it would be so much
fun to paint - and it was - wish you could see the texture of the paint!

'Weeping Willow'
(Children's Lake, Boiling Springs, PA)
An Original Plein Air Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Weeping Willow'
Children's Lake, Boiling Springs, PA
Plein Air
Oil on Archival Linen Panel
10 x 8

I grabbed my pochade box to get ready to go
painting this morning, and remembered that I had never
removed this plein air painting I had done last week at
Children's Lake in Boiling Springs.  That day at the lake was a perfect
Summer's  day, with ducks and their babies, geese and swans
out on the lake...but this beautiful old willow is what caught my eye.

Imagine how many children this old tree has seen feeding the
ducks over the years!

An Original Oil Painting

I absolutely love painting along water, and especially
the Susquehanna River here in Pennsylvania.  When I am
there I often take lots of photos as reference for future work.
This is one that I have been wanting to paint for over three years...
and is of a glimpse of my favorite Rockville Bridge
through the foliage of trees and wild plants.

I apologize for the glare - it is just off my easel.

Painting along the Susquehanna River in West Fairview, PA
on a beautiful, and very hot July morning...  I loved the way
the humidity softened edges and colors, especially on the
capitol building.

'Deep in the Heart of Texas'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Deep in the Heart of Texas'

Oil on Archival Linen Panel

When it comes to flowers, without a doubt the blue
ones are my favorite.  In my garden here in Pennsylvania
I treasure my false indigo, russian sage, and Virginia bluebells.
My nephew took some photographs of the wonderful
bluebonnets in the Hill Country of Texas,
and I am so grateful that he allowed me to use some of
them as reference material to paint these hills of blue.
