MAGIC LILIES
An Original Plein Air
Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Magic Lilies'
Plein Air
Oil
8 x 10

I have always loved these flowers that seem to magically pop
up from the ground in August each year.  They are
called 'Magic Lilies', or 'Surprise Lilies', and are
such a joy to find in the late summer garden.  I really
enjoyed painting these today in my friend Pat's garden
(and also the delicious lunch she made for us)!

My gear on site this morning...

Pat working on her painting.  Our umbrellas really came in handy
when that hot sun popped out.  If you look closely you can
see two batches of 'magic lilies' among the black-eyed susans.

GARDEN IN THE WOODS
An Original Plein Air
Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Garden in the Woods'
Plein Air
Oil on Linen Panel
12 x 9

Yesterday my good friend Pat Putz and I braved
the scorching heat and painted her beautiful
garden in the woods.  As we painted, I
enjoyed the sounds of her chickens and the
occasional breeze that drifted by. It was a
wonderful time shared with a dear friend!

Below is Pat working on her painting (with my
gear to her left).

COLOR ALONG THE YELLOW BREECHES
An Original Plein Air
Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Color Along the Yellow Breeches'
Oil on Linen Panel
12 x 9

We went back to paint at Petra Wirth's on Monday,
and even though the heat had diminished some of
the flowers, the colors were still breath-taking.
I loved the way the day lilies, bee balm and hostas in
bloom created a border of color along the Yellow Breeches.

WAGON WHEEL BENCH
Beech Springs Farm
An Original Plein Air Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Wagon Wheel Bench'
Beech Springs Farm
Oil on Linen Panel
9 x 12

Some days just don't turn out the way you think
they will...
I was on my way  to deliver a painting yesterday morning
when I ran my car into a car that had stopped suddenly
in front.of me.  No one was hurt (the most important
thing), but my car got the worst of it.  After I had made
sure that everyone was ok, I suddenly realized that I had
all my plein air gear in the back.  Because many items
in the car slid forward on impact, I was very happy
to find that everything was safe and sound - especially
this plein air painting from Beech Springs Farm.

PETRA'S MAGICAL GARDEN
An Original Plein Air Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Petra's Magical Garden'
Oil on Linen Panel
9 x 12

Yesterday I painted in the beautiful gardens of my yoga
instructor's house.  I felt as though I had been dropped
into paradise...such gorgeous drifts of flowers, and
the Yellow Breeches close by.  While I painted, hummingbirds
came to feast on the bee balm, and Petra's chickens and one
of her cats came to visit me as I worked.  I almost expected
to see garden fairies flitting around the flowers...
After I was done painting, I went into her yoga studio
for my yoga class - what a great day!

Our plein air group, the Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters
has been invited to paint there this coming Monday,
I think they are going to like it...a LOT...

SUNLIT HYDRANGEAS IN GETTYSBURG
An Original Plein AIr Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Sunlit Hydrangeas in Gettysburg'
Gettysburg Festival Art Colony  2012
Oil
6 x  8

I painted this on our first day of the Gettysburg Festival Artist
Colony.  After all of the artists got settled into our
digs at the Lamp Post dormitory, we walked over to
the campus of the Gettysburg College to paint.  I spotted
these sun-kissed hydrangeas right by the entrance
of the Administration Building.  It was a wonderful way
to start an even more wonderful experience!!!

STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES
An Original Plein Air Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Stop and Smell the Roses'
 Plein Air
Oil on Linen Panel
11 x 14

Day Two of the second annual Camp Hill Plein Air Event.

Today Linda Young and I paired up to go painting,
and after checking out Negley Park in Lemoyne, we decided
to go back to Camp Hill...and what a fortuitous
decision that was.  We found this incredible garden
that only gave a hint of it's magnificence from the street.
The owner gave us permission to come right into
her back yard to paint, and we literally walked into paradise.
Thanks so much, Pat Anastasio!

Here is my painting from today, which was
done entirely on site, except for adding my
signature, and the letters on the stop sign.

PANSY TRIO
an Original Plein Air Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

What a great day of plein air painting!  I went over to
my daughter's to paint her beautiful flower gardens with
my two granddaughters.  We had a beautiful, breezy day
to paint - so much fun!  See more pictures below.

What a great set-up - I was able to get out of the bright
sunlight by parking myself under their deck umbrella.

The girls painted right beside me.  I see some rather nice
looking flowers being painted...

I got a good block-in done on my second painting of the
day.  I love the variety of beautiful blue flowers my
daughter has in these beds...especially that lovely blue flower
directly to the right of my pochade box.

Don't really have to put up with this when I am out painting
in the wild...but I wouldn't give these wild things up
for anything in the world ♥
