'Late Summer Garden' (Kings Gap)
An Original Plein Air

Yesterday I painted up at Kings Gap State Park with
my good friend and fellow artist, Mary Beth Brath.
She had suggested we go there to paint in the
garden, and the moment I started driving up that
long curvy drive to the top of the mountain, I
knew this is just what I needed!   The garden is
gorgeous, and complete with a small pond with
water lilies and frogs.

The zinnias called to me, and when I walked
away from them to look at some of the other
parts of the garden, they just called louder - so
that's what I painted!

'Golden Summer at Messiah'
An Original Plein Air
Oil Painting

Thanks to a friend up on Facebook, I was
made aware that there were rolling hills
of sunflowers being grown by Messiah College
in Grantham, PA. My friend and fellow artist
Pat Koscienski and I went there to paint
yesterday.  The heavy rains we had the previous
week had beaten up the blossoms a bit, but
it still was an amazing sight to behold.

I did use some artistic license with this and had
the sunflowers facing toward me...for some
reason they were all being shy, and their faces
were pointing away from us, and toward the sun :)

My painting in progress

'Still Waters'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

Two years ago, I got the opportunity to go
up to Nancy and Eric Olson's farm in Port Royal
to paint their fields of sunflowers.  While I
was there I walked around and got some
photographs, and this is one of the amazing
views I found that I wanted to paint.
I even liked the little bit of algae in the water
that created breaks in the stillness.

After taking this up to the studio and studying
it for a bit while I was painting something else,
I spent about fifteen minutes just adding a little
more color in the foreground black-eyed susans
and a few other tweaks, then stepped back
and said 'FINISHED!'

A great day of plein air painting with my friend
Pat Putz at her beautiful cabin in the woods.
We had to dodge the raindrops, but had
fun painting part of her home and her gorgeous
flower gardens.  This is my painting - almost complete.
There are only a few things that I might
tweak once I get it home.

Here's a picture of Pat painting

Pat's little cocker spaniel, Caylee, decided to
stay inside to watch us paint!

'Conodoguinet Reflections'
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

12 x16

When I was in elementary school, my
Great-Aunt Margaret's goal was to teach
me how to spell a new and difficult word
each time I visited her during summer
vacation.  She always made it fun, but didn't
give up until how I learned to spell the word
she had chosen.   'Conodoguinet' (for the
Conodoguinet Creek that ran through
Camp Hill, PA) was one of the toughest to
learn, but I never forgot how to spell it after all
of these years!

I think Great-Aunt Margaret would have
liked that I painted this, and that I remembered
how to spell the name of the creek as well :)

This is one of the most beautiful places I have
ever visited, and the Serpentine holds special
memories of my first kayak adventure!
This is the Serpentine at dusk, with a softer
light and a path of water lilies inviting
you to enter.
