AUTUMN SOFTNESS
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Autumn Softness'
Oil on Panel
8 x 4

As the leaves start to fade and fall, the soft russets and
yellows complement the purple haze of the mountain
in the distance.  Although I love the intense colors of
the leaves when they are at their peak, this softer side
that they display is just as attractive.

This small painting is going to be delivered to the
Carlisle Arts Learning Center next week along with
four other small paintings I will be taking there for
the CALC Art for the Holidays, which will be
held Nov. 19 through  Jan. 5.  I hope that you will stop by
and see all of the wonderful things they have on
display, and support your local artists :)

ARABESQUE
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Arabesque'
© Claire Beadon Carnell
Oil on Archival Linen Panel
18 x 24

I have been playing with composition with the last few
still life paintings I have done, and with this one I tried to
push it as far as it would go and still work.  I had SO much fun
working on it, and it didn't hurt that it combines
deep pink tulips in one of my favorite vases - a
Fenton Cranberry Opalescent hobnail.

AT WATER'S EDGE
An Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'At Water's Edge'
Oil on Linen
14 x 18

When my husband and I were up in the woods last weekend,
I decided to hike down to this small pond that
is adjacent to our property.  As I got closer,
I was getting hints of a beautiful shade of red.
What I found was a perfect place of solitude.  There
were no other footprints than mine and those of some
deer who had stopped to take a drink...so it
only seemed fitting that I add a doe along the water's
edge in this colorful autumn scene.

NEWVILLE FARM QUILT
An Original Plein Air
Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Newville Farm Quilt'
Oil Plein Air
(View from the Clearing 10/14/2012)
10 x 20

Perhaps one of my favorite places up by our cabin
is this clearing that displays an amazingl vista of the farmland
and Blue Mountain Ridge below(this is only a small portion of
what is visible).  We have put a picnic
table there where we can sit and absorb the view.  While
I was painting, there were Redtail hawks circling in the sky
and screeching out their distinctive call.  They floated on the
air currents, and like myself, just enjoyed the quiet beauty of the day.

INTO THE DEEP
An Original Plein Air
Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Into the Deep'

Fuller Lake
Pine Grove Furnace State Park, PA
10 x 8

I love Fuller Lake, and all of the little pockets of beauty
you can find if you just take the time to look.  This spot is
at one end of the lake, and always holds surprises - especially
in Autumn when the colors of the leaves start to change.

The lake itself is very deep (125 feet), and as we discovered while
we were painting, it is also a place enjoyed by scuba divers.
As I was standing on the shore opposite this scene, I heard
some bubbling noises and looked into the water.  About five
feet below the water's surface, two scuba divers were exploring
all the under-water treasures.  The things you see while
painting outdoors - no wonder I like it so much!

MORNING PRAYERS
An Original Plein Air
Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Morning Prayers'
Oil Plein Air
Ashcombe's Market,
Mechanicsburg, PA
11 x 14

This is the second time I have gone to Ashcombe's Market
to paint their sunflowers.  We got there early last Thursday morning
when the grass was wet with dew, and the sunflowers had
their heads bent as if in morning prayer.  As they started to
warm up in the sun, their heads began to lift toward
the light.  Life is good.

RED BOATS
An Original Plein Air
Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Red Boats'

Oil Plein Air
Herring River,
Harwich, Cape Cod, MA
10 x 20

This was the place where we came to paint after we
arrived in Cape Cod.  All of the painters were there, and
most had started to work.  Because we did not get in until late
the night before, we were a little behind.  It was a bit cloudy
that day, but we got out of the car and got all set up to paint...
that's when it started to rain.  Had to throw everything back in
the car, and Johanna and Clare and I decided that we would
use the time to investigate some of the local lighthouses.'

The next day, the sun was shining, and there was a nice
breeze ruffling the tops of the marsh grasses when
we went back to the Herring River to paint these
magnificent red boats.
