GREEN PEARS
Original ACEO Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Green Pears'
Oil  2.5" x 3.5"

My very first ACEO!  Very different to be working at
this ultra-small size, but I have to admit I really enjoyed
working on this.  The hard part is that you must get up and
put some distance between yourself and the painting to
really get the whole picture of what is going on with the work,
just as you do with larger paintings.  I am already planning
my next one...

RIPPLES AND SHADOWS
Original Plein Air Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Ripples and Shadows'
Oil   6 x 8

Whew...finally got my new power cord for my laptop and
have the laptop up and running!  Our Plein Air Group, the
Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters went to Children's Lake in
Boiling Springs last Thursday.  It was the first sunny day we
had in many days, and it was wonderful to be out in the fresh
air painting and watching the fishermen fish in the 'Catch and
Release' section of the stream.  More pictures of the artists at
work are available at the SVPAP blog.

SHE SAID WHAT?!!!
an Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'She said WHAT?!!!'
Oil
6 x 6
I've been working on a painting of a railroad bridge that crosses
the Little Buffalo Creek in Newport, Perry County today, and thought
I'd take a break with this fun little painting for
Carol Marine's Daily Paintworks Challenge   - 'Chicken Challenge'.
Obviously, the dust balls are still collecting :)

GATHERING WOOL
Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Gathering Wool'
Oil on linen archival panel
8 x 10

This has been one of those days that when I got up and
got ready for my day, the rest of the day was decided
as soon as I sat down at my easel.  Although it's not really great
when it comes to getting the housework done, it's a day
that fills my heart and soul with such joy - I am so lucky to be
able to follow my passion.  Those dustballs will still be there tomorrow!

I created this painting to submit to Carol Marine's Daily Paintworks
Challenge - 'The German Landscape'.  She provided two really great
photographs for this week's work, and when I saw the second
photograph my mind also saw sheep and a shepherd on the road.
It was fun to work with the reference and my imagination to create
something that was uniquely my own.

EARLY SPRING AT THE COPSE
(Gettysburg Battlefield)
Original Plein Air Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Early Spring at the Copse'
Oil   6 x 12
Plein Air

The Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters had a great day to paint
last Thursday at the 'Copse of Trees' on the Gettysburg Battlefield.
It was an overcast day, with the sun trying to break through,
providing some weak sunlight. I chose to paint the back view of the
Copse because I thought the stones in the foreground added
to the composition of the piece.

This particular area on the Gettysburg Battlefield is located
near the 'Angle', which some historians have argued was
where the turning point of the war took place, and that this area
represented the Confederacy's last major offensive
operation in the Eastern Theater.

WASH DAY TOYS
Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Wash Day Toys'
Oil on Linen
12 x 16

I have really enjoyed painting this particular still life.
As I painted these items, my mind wondered about
the little girl who played with these toys almost one hundred
years ago.  She obviously treasured this wash set, because
even after all of these years the pieces are in wonderful
condition.  I am sure that she felt such a sense of pride
working beside her mother and helping with the
washing and ironing.

My thanks to Carolyn and Fred Baldwin who graciously
let me borrow these items that once belonged to Carolyn's mother.

IN YOUR FACE
by Claire Beadon Carnell
100 Paintings in 100 Days Challenge
'Inspirations from a Back Yard'
74/100

'In Your Face'
Oil 6 x 6
74/100

Day 74

One of my students, who knows that I love blue flowers
in the garden, and also knows that I am working on
my '100 Paintings in 100 Days Challenge', brought me a
photograph she had taken of this full-faced blue columbine
so that I could paint it.
I am really looking forward to when my own columbines
start to pop up through the dirt in the garden.  They are
such a uniquely beautiful flower, especially those blue ones!
