Gettysburg Festival Plein Air Paint Out Begins!

Today the 2010 Gettysburg Festival started, and
the group of plein air painters congregated at the
historical Round Barn to begin painting. Looks like
some great paintings are in the works!


This is the view of the barn I was beginning to paint.
I really liked the peek-through under the overpass
from the Round Barn to the barn to its right. The
light was beautiful.

Everytime I walk out of the back door of my
house, I get to see these clumps of beautiful
blue meadow sage I planted along the stone
retaining wall. Every morning and every afternoon,
these flowers are covered with honeybees, and if
you have been following this challenge - you
already know how much I love my honeybees!

My Lucky Day

About two weeks ago, I was on Leslie Saeta's blog making a comment about one of her beautiful paintings, and in doing so I became the fortunate winner of a one hour marketing consultation with her! You have to check out Leslie's blog - it is a veritable goldmine of information on how to make your blog and/or website work for you successfully as a selling tool. Of special interest (besides her blogtalkradio shows) is the 'Artists Helping Artists' link at the top of her blog page.

I am so excited about all of the information she imparted to me during our conference call this morning! Learning how to send my blog posts directly to my Facebook page was definitely one of the highlights (no more dual entry - yeah!).

Rarely do I ever win anything, but it sure was a lucky day for me when I won this opportunity to talk with Leslie!

The rain continues, so I thought that instead of

letting it get me down - I would paint it! It was

quite interesting to get the placement right so that

the design would be pleasing. Does your eye move

around the canvas?

Also, there's a lot more color in here than one

would suspect - especially in

the raindrops that I wanted to be more

important.

PINE SCHOOL STUDIO 8th Annual Student Art Exhibit

Celebration!

Each year I am so impressed with the work of my
students, and with how much they have improved and
grown as artists. At the end of the Spring Painting
Session we have a student exhibit to celebrate all
of their hard work and success. Congratulations
to all of them for the beautiful work they had on
display today. I sure hope they heard the
wonderful comments that were being made about
their paintings from all of the people who attended
the exhibit.


Thanks to everyone for all of their help that
made today such a huge success!

This little cabbage butterfly was so kind to sit

still long enough so that I could snap some reference

photos of him on the pink verbena. It happened on

one of the rare sunny afternoons we have been

having.

Rain, rain go away...it seem to rain here every day!

We are having such a wet spring, just like last year,

so hopefully this will also mean we have an abundant

garden.

Grabbed these petunia blossoms on the way up to

the studio so that I would have something fresh

from the garden to paint.

The different hostas in the garden are just starting to

get buds which will eventually turn into lily-like

flowers. I was walking around the back yard

and happened to notice this bud on the

Blue Angel Hosta, and thought it had a wonderful

oriental look to it. This was SO much fun to paint!

Day 17


I purposely grow plants in my garden to draw in the
bees. We have had such a shortage of honeybees
over the past few years because
of the mites that were getting into their hives and killing
them off, so I try to do whatever I can to help them
regenerate and increase their population.

This also means letting things go to seed, like my chives.
The bumblebees swarm to the flowers, and this little
guy was about half drunk on the nectar
he was drinking from the chive blossom!

Snapdragons are the perfect annual,

especially the way they re-seed themselves
