This Summer, the group that I paint with outdoors went to this Day Lily Farm in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. I never saw so many different colors and varieties of day lilies. The home and the barn were made of this rich, brown stone - it was difficult to settle down and find just one location to paint. I decided on this view of the house, greenhouse and outbuilding because of the flowers growing amongst them, and also because I really liked the ladder leaning up against the tree.

I love all the flowers in this Claire. It makes me happy thinking about climbing trees as a kid. Lovely!
Thanks, Kristen. I have to admit I spent a lot of time up in trees when I was a kid - you got such a great view from up there!
Oh Claire... I do love your rooftop homage and the juxtaposition of day and night... but i have to leave my comment today on your recent plein airs. my goodness - you are really nailing these. the colors and compositions! Very well done... more, more!
Thank you so much, Mitzi - I really appreciate your very supportive comments!
Claire - this is a perfect rendition of the Daylily Farm. I was just there again last week and the ladder is still against the tree!! We will have to go back again in 2010.
Thanks, Mary Beth! It was a such a beautiful place to paint - I would love to go back there again next year.
