SHADES OF AMETHYST
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Shades of Amethyst'
Oil   24 x 30
Available

When I was growing up, my mom had this really impressive
amethyst crystal vase that she kept up on the mantlepiece.  Every
Spring, it was full of her gorgeous lilacs, and the whole house
was permeated with their wonderful scent.
My mother had such a joy for life...and she savored every single
moment.  I hope there are lots and lots of lilacs up there in heaven.

This painting will be on exhibit at Gallerie 13 during the month of
January 2011 as part of the 'New Artists Exhibit' that will show
the work of artists who have joined the gallery in the past year.
If you are in the area, I hope you can stop in!

Day 69

We're having a beautiful day here, lots of sunshine and blue skies.
You could almost fool yourself into thinking it is early Spring
until you walk outside and feel the temperatures!  No doubt
about it, it's definitely Winter here in PA.  Thought it would be
nice to paint this little sunlit pansy to brighten the day.  Something
to continue the illusion that it's a little bit warmer outside than
it really is...

THE LAST LIGHT OF THE DAY
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'The Last Light of the Day'
Oil  6 x 8

This is a repost of a painting I did about a year ago
of a snowy farm as seen from the Bonnybrook Road
in Carlisle, PA.  I have been wishing
for a little bit of snow to
go with the frigid weather we have been having here, so
maybe this will be my good luck charm...
Here's to hoping we have a White Christmas like
we did last year :)

A ROSE IS A ROSE
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'A Rose is a Rose'
Oil  6 x 6

I painted this for Lela Stankovik's Paint and Draw Challenge.
If you have a moment to check out the link, I hope you will.
What I like about these challenges is seeing all of the different
interpretations that are posted by each participating artist,
even though everyone is working from the same photograph.
The breadth of creativity and uniqueness of each painting is what
is so incredible.

HEMLOCK BERRIES

Day 68

I have to admit, when I was little I was very attracted
to pretty berries and beans...and not in a healthy way.
When I lived in California, my best friend (and next-door
neighbor) and I would get together and eat those very beautiful
(and equally poisonous) pink and white castor beans.  My friend
would be taken to the hospital to have her stomach pumped,
but my mother would just make me drink salt water...

So... you would have thought that when
we moved to Pennsylvania I would have been somewhat wiser...
well, it only took one more time with the dreaded salt water, and I never
touched these stunning ruby berries again!

RED MAPLE SHADOWS
Carlisle House Series
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Red Maple Shadows'
Oil  8 x 8

I always love to see the flowers that people plant - no matter how
stately or humble the home, there usually is a pretty splash of color
blooming somewhere in a pot or in the yard.  Several summers ago, I went
around the town of Carlisle and took some reference photographs
of some of the places I thought would be interesting to paint.  This house
had so many things about it that I thought would be fun to work with -
the fence, the flowers in the window box and the beautiful
colors of the red maple tree shading the house itself.

HOMAGE TO THE HETZI HOLLY
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Homage to the Hetzi Holly'
Oil  5 x 7
67/100

Day 67

This ia a simple study of a sprig from the Japanese
Hetzi Holly that grows at the back corner of my
house. I planted this bush over 18 years ago,
and this year is the first time it produced berries.
Now, I do realize that this most likely happened because
someone in the area planted a male of this
species, but that does not take away the thrill
I got when I noticed all of these wonderful
bluish-black berries covering this holly!

Can't wait to see some snow on them * * *
