Day 70

Lately I have been working on some larger pieces, and it was
nice to get in this quick little study of a zinnia.  The photographic
reference was taken this past summer of some zinnias I had grown
in my garden.  I always like to plant some in among the vegetables
because they add such brightness and cheer, and they bloom long
into the fall.

I have often wondered what causes some of the zinnias to grow
a center cone (like this one), while others stay relatively flat.
 Anyone out there know?

It is gorgeous, Claire. I suspect your question may have to do with male vs. female flowers and their methods of reproduction but I'm not positive. Beautiful reds that make me long for spring...sigh...

Thank you, Hilda. It is wonderful that you have those good memories of your mom when you see zinnias. My mom had two green thumbs, and grew so many flowers - lily of the valley, lilacs and daffodils all bring her to mind and heart ♥.

Thanks, Pam! I am hoping to get mine done before Spring, and definitely think we should celebrate when we both have completed our challenges!!!
