LATE AFTERNOON SHADOWS
Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Late Afternoon Shadows'
Oil
11 x 14

When I was on my search for the 'ultimate' hay bales
late last Summer, I came across this old red barn
that was catching the late afternoon sun.  The shadows
were so intriguing, and I knew that this was something
that I would have to paint!

It is beautiful Claire! I love the shadows contrasting with the light in this piece.

Il y a une grande profondeur dans cette peinture... la lumière qui la baigne lui donne une âme...

The shadows are so perfect that they have actually lighted up the composition indirectly.. it is beautiful Claire!

This painting is a dream for me, the way I always wished I'd grown up. I can imagine this farm family having a blast on this property, raising each other up, enjoying and respecting nature. Beautiful painting, Claire!

There is definitely something about old barnes and you have captured this one beautifully!! The light and shade really defines the painting.

Shadows - that's what landscapes are all about! I love this one, I feel like I am walking down that lane and hear the breeze rustling through the trees...and the birds singing! Nice!

Thank you, Brad. The contrasts were what really motivated me to paint this (and that red barn!)

Thanks so much, Hilda - I love it when the light makes those long shadows.

I love red barns too, Kimberly - thank you!

Merci, Martine. J'ai aimé la lumière qui frappait la grange, et les ombres qui ont été exprimés à travers la route - ce fut beaucoup de plaisir à peindre!

Sherry, my great uncle had a farm and we used to go there every summer. It was so much fun to have so much space to run and play!

Thanks so much, Azra! I am always drawn to the way light affects things in the landscape, and loved the shadows in this particular scene.

Thanks so much, Pattie. I love when someone feels like they are 'inside' one of my paintings - couldn't get a nicer compliment!

This piece really brings back some memories of my time in the Mid-Atlantic. Even if I didn't know you were from PA, I'd know the barn was from the area! All that lush green. You really nailed the lighting too - I love the shadows on the barn. Nice piece!
