'The Stone Wall'
Oil on Panel
8 x 16
SOLD
I always like to be part of a surprise, and this commission
was for the man who built the curved stone wall in this
painting. I haven't posted any pictures until I was
absolutely sure that he had received the artwork. It
was also so very nice to learn today from Art and Soul Gallery
that he loves his gift!
that he loves his gift!
Successful surprise all-around.
Below is a picture of my photo reference. I used it for the
objects, but tried to give the painting a sense of light and life.
On January 11-12 2013, I will be conducting
a two-day workshop on 'Painting from Photographs'.

That stonework is gorgeous and I so admire stonemasons and their artistry. Your painting is just beautiful, Claire. No surprise to me that he loved it.
This is absolutely beautiful, Claire!!! I knew he would love this one...and its even more special that he built this stone wall!!! A wonderful memory.
Wonderful painting! The light on top of the wall leading the eye to the house and then you skillfully brought us back around to the wall seeing little jewels all along the way! How I wish I could take your workshop! Happy New Year!
Thanks so much, Sherry. I am not so fond of doing commissions, so I was especially pleased that the client liked it!
Thank you, Hilda! I manipulated the shadowing of the wall so that there would be more detail showing - especially since the owner is the person who built the wall.
Thank you, Sue. I am having trouble figuring out how to post comments to your blog :(
Thanks so much for your very kind comments, Rosemary!
Great work. I like the light you brought into the wall.
Happy New Year, Claire!
I really like how you transformed a photograph into an exceptional painting, Claire!! Very skillfully done!
Happy New Year to you and yours!
Very nice job on this Claire. Wish it enlarged more to fully appreciate your fine work, as well as the builders. What an unusual design.
All the best in the new year to you and yours.
