This has been such an idyllic summer. The colors seem more intense, the air seems so clear, and with all of the rain we have had, green rules the landscape! I wonder if I am just appreciating it more because I've been able to spend more time this summer plein air painting? Here's my work from yesterday - bales of hay sitting out among all the different shades of green.

This is great the front bale pops the background recedes... great colors.
Makes me want to head up to Pennsylvania for some of that idyllic weather and who can resist hay bales, not me!
This is so beautiful, Claire. Love the variety of greens and your use of lilac and purple for the shadows in the hay bales. The darks in the trees add so much dimension and the muted background foliage adds wonderful depth. Great work!
Thanks, David. I appreciate your comments!
Camille, hope my comment about idyllic weather hasn't been a jinx - the humidity and heat was right up there today...
Thank you, Gwen. Green is always a challenge, and this has been the summer of greens! But then again, I love a challenge... :)
Nice job, Claire! Looks very good. I'm looking forward to paint some of those too, but so far only have time for pictures taking! :-)
Beautiful!!
love this, great palette, really evokes the feel of the day...
Great depth of field... your use of color is very effective!
I didn't see this one when I visited your blog to comment on the DSFDF painting. This one is brilliant, love the touches of purple in the shadows of the bales,a small masterpiece.
Thank you - like painting trees and bales of hay lots better than buildings! :)
Hi Claire,
I just love the hay bales. Your greens are beautiful, I always struggle with greens!
Catherine
Thanks so much, Catherine. Greens are always a challenge - there are just so many shades!
What a beautiful plein aire I love your use of the complimentary colors to pop the golden sun on the hay. The trees and grass are so lush. In California they stack the hay in large rectangles in dry golden fields. I also love your composition. – Lori Margulies
The colors are beautiful. Also, I'm amazed by the large tree in the background. The values are right on. I'm glad to have found your blog.
