Karin has really given us some challenging photographs to work from for the Different Strokes from Different Folks challenges, and this was no exception. I was considering letting this one pass, but then realized I was being a total wimp. Fortunately an idea popped into my head that would make it just a little bit different, and then I really started having fun!

It took me awhile to detect the shadow, wasn't expecting that, now I see what you meant about having fun with it!

Great idea Clair! You did a wonderful job rendering the city. You should paint more cityscapes! Well done

Thanks, Diana - I wanted the shadow of Godzilla to be subtle so he would sneak up on you when you least expected it!

Claire said...

I appreciate your comments, Mitzi - but I am not sure I will ever be an urban landscape painter!

Hi Claire
Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the comments. It gives me an opportunity to visit other artists. I like the soft grainy texture of this painting, and of your wonderful landscapes. And it is so great to come across a little sense of humor! A little chuckle goes a long way.

Claire,
Thanks for the nice comment on my entry to the different strokes challenge. Funny how when you don't really feel like you pulled it off others do. Thanks too for following my blog ANDREA

I recently became frustrated with canvas and started painting on Gessobord. But after seeing this, I'm tempted to go back. You're really making it work! A lovely piece, Claire.

I appreciate your comments, Erika. Thank you!

Claire said...

Beckie - thank you. I look forward to seeing more of your very creative work as well!

Becky, I have tried different supports, but always come back to canvas - I really like the texture under the paint. Thank you for your kind comments.

Claire, the shadow is painted so subtly that it seems to increase the anticiapation of Godzilla's actual appearance. Love it.

Claire said...

Thank you, Pat - I did want him to sneak up on everyone just a bit!

I don't really have much to add except that i loved that you saw this extra element and the way it was done was so subtle that it was very effective

Excellent work! Made me smile :)

Thank you, Don't Feed the Pixies (love your name). I am glad this put a smile on your face - that was my goal with the painting, so it succeeded!
