DSFDF Annual Portrait Challenge 2009
Final

'Petra Lange'
DSFDF Annual Portrait Challenge 2009
Oil 8 X 8

I am so glad that I participated in this challenge. I
was worried about the time factor considering what time
of year it is, but it was so nice to have something like
this to pull me away from all of the holiday hustle
and bustle.

If you would like to see more of my work, please
feel free to go to my web

This is wonderful Claire, I really like the crop and the almost amused look you gave her!

Thank you, Dana. Petra had a great expression on her face in the photo I was sent, and I am hoping I did it justice!

Claire, Absolutely a gorgeous job. Don't know what her photo was like, but you've handled this with such delicacy and tender strokes and have managed to capture something that has tickled Petra's fancy. You definitely did it justice. I see Petra peeking out of one of the thumbnails in your Follower grouping. I was able to do that just from studying your portrait piece. Every part is molded so well. Great shading, shapes, colors and mood!

I wrote a comment. Sent it. This box came up empty and no comment under your painting. Hope it went thru. Will check back tomorrow to see. If not, will rewrite it.

Great finish, Claire. Isn't it that sometimes, when time is short, we become more efficient. She will really like the way this turned out.

Thank you so much, Ruth! I am relatively new to portraiture, and really enjoyed this challenge. With each one I do, I feel as though I learn a little bit more.
The blog gremlins are out and about again..I have had several of my comments disappear into cyberspace this evening.

Thank you, Pat. I have always felt that I work best under pressure. It is amazing how we become more efficient and work 'smarter'.

Claire, this is wonderful!
I don't know how you did this, but it is exactly "my smile", incredible! I bet everyone who knows me will recognize me right away!
I can't wait to see our paintings together on the DSFDF blog! For now I do wish you and your family a merry x-mas and let's exchange our addresses for the swap :)))

Thank you, Sherry - Petra is a very pretty lady, and I got a great photograph of her to work from. I enjoy following your blog also!!!!

Thanks, Ann. It's good for me to post in stages - it helps me to see any errors as I go. Learning so much here each time I paint another portrait.

Hello Claire,
This is a great portrait, really like seeing this composed on a square canvas. I love your subject's playfulness in her smile and her eyes looking into the negative space, very nice. This is such a difficult time to take on anything else, but aren't you glad you did! I didn't turn in my photo until the last day and the last hour because I was concerned about time constraints, but glad I followed through. Take care.

You did a beautiful job on this portrait challenge, Claire! The skin tones are lovely and I love how the light blue scarf compliments her red hair.

Yes, I am very glad I took on this challenge, Angela. This was a great learning experience, as are all of Karin's DSFDF challenges! Thank you for your very kind comments.

Claire Beadon Carnell said...

Thanks so much, Edward. I am still going back and looking at yours - just phenomenal!

Claire Beadon Carnell said...

Thank you, Michelle. When I first saw the blue bandana, I was worried that it was going to take over everything else, but it actually served as a nice cool spot to balance all of the warm skin tones.

Thank you, Violetta. Petra said that is exactly how her smile looks, and that really made me feel as though I had some success! I had never painted anyone wearing lipstick before, and that was a challenge.
