I have to admit, when I was little I was very attracted
to pretty berries and beans...and not in a healthy way.
When I lived in California, my best friend (and next-door
neighbor) and I would get together and eat those very beautiful
(and equally poisonous) pink and white castor beans. My friend
would be taken to the hospital to have her stomach pumped,
but my mother would just make me drink salt water...
So... you would have thought that when
we moved to Pennsylvania I would have been somewhat wiser...
well, it only took one more time with the dreaded salt water, and I never
touched these stunning ruby berries again!

Lovely work, really like the touches of blue in amongst the greens - nice backdrop for the red berries.
I had to laugh when I read your post. Not that eating poison berries is funny. Just laughing at the innocence of childhood logic. We played with those lovely berries too. Only we didn't eat them - but we did serve them at the dinner table when we played house and treated the bush's with berries as our supermarkets! Boy, what we played with as children would send shivers up some folks spines today!
Thanks for your comment, Nancie. When I think about some of the things we did as kids (like shimmy up the pine tree beside our two-story house to climb up on the roof) I wonder how we survived, and did so without any broken bones!
That is quite a story. By luck, we ate eugenia berries, which apparently were harmless. I like the blue in this.
I can see, Claire, you had a very adventurous life, as a child !and you had a wise mother..

Yes, Sylviane - as mother (and a grandmother), I have often wondered how my mom survived us!!!
