SUMMER PLUMS
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Summer Plums'
Oil  8 x 10
Available

There's nothing like sun-kissed, fresh fruit right off the tree.  I
loved the color of these plums, especially with one of the plum's
interior flesh showing.  The plate is one of many I have that came
down to me from my mother - it is an 'orphan', but one I have
always treasured because of the beautiful purple flower on the edge.
It just seemed the perfect place for the plums to rest before they
became part of our meal.

Claire, they are sumptuous. Perfect capture of that blue powdery sheen I often see on plums. I've never been a plum fan, but once an old friend was making plum jam in her kitchen and gave me a taste right as she canned it. Warm plum jam is to absolutely die for!

Love the beautiful oranges in the flesh of the plums against the deep purples in the skin. Wonderful job on getting that blue sheen.

Wonderful painting! Thanks for sharing about the plate. That makes the painting even more special. I have some of my grandmothers "orphans" too.

Thanks, Virginia - that duskiness on the plums was so much fun to paint.

Kimberly - thank you, I have to say that some of my favorite dishes are orphan's from my grandmother and my mother, and other members of the family who were dish collectors.

Thank you Tina. The oranges, reds and purples of the plums were what compelled me to paint them - made me think of Summer!

Yes, you did an excellent job on that plum skin! Wish they were in season - now I want one!
