WASH DAY TOYS
Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Wash Day Toys'
Oil on Linen
12 x 16

I have really enjoyed painting this particular still life.
As I painted these items, my mind wondered about
the little girl who played with these toys almost one hundred
years ago.  She obviously treasured this wash set, because
even after all of these years the pieces are in wonderful
condition.  I am sure that she felt such a sense of pride
working beside her mother and helping with the
washing and ironing.

My thanks to Carolyn and Fred Baldwin who graciously
let me borrow these items that once belonged to Carolyn's mother.

Thank you, Hilda. I was immediately attracted to the green wash tub when I first saw the set - and it was a lot of fun recreating that color in paint!

Thanks, Pam! I love these objects too - but I am going to have to return them now that the painting is done. I have really enjoyed having them set up in the studio.

Gros bisous

Claire, this is absolutely beautiful and my new favorite of your work. I love these antique pieces and your colors are simply so exquisite, so clean and neat. (I am amazed that you did this with oils; my oil work tends to be ponderous, I think.) Gorgeous work and awesome job!

Thanks, Kimberly. I have found that the older I get, the more I appreciate older things :)

Beautiful memories you have inspired here, Claire! My sister and i used to "hang our doll laundry" on our enclosed front porch. A refreshingly nice painting!
