DAY ONE GETTYSBURG FRINGE FESTIVAL
Plein Air Event
Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

DAY ONE - JUNE 10, 2011
Gettysburg Fringe Festival Plein Air Event

The painting begins!  Today was the first day of
the Gettysburg Fringe Festival 10 day Plein Air Event.
We all met on the campus of the Lutheran Seminary in
Gettysburg to get our agenda for the week, and then to
pick a spot to paint.  I originally had planned to go over
and paint General Lee's Headquarters, but the sun and
heat were fierce, and the Seminary had some lovely
vistas, with some equally lovely big shade trees to paint beneath.

Here is my painting, which was painted while standing
right next to the Chapel, and looking toward the town
of Gettysburg.

'Nestled'
(View from the Lutheran Seminary toward town)
Oil  9 x 12

The hot sun and haze in the morning hours created some
beautiful colors in the sky and buildings.  I loved the way
the buildings were sitting in a veritable nest of trees.

My set-up for the day - see the nice shade I had
found to paint under?

Mary Beth Brath, who was painting directly behind me.

Some of the other artists painting today - all of whom found
a nice spot of shade to set up and work.

So beautiful, Claire! I like the old buildings nestled in the trees too. What a luscious place!
