They say the third time is the charm...
I have actually painted this scene twice
before, and was so unhappy with the results
that I abandoned the work. The stubborn streak
in me made me try one more time, and when
I reached the same point of frustration that
I had reached with the previous paintings, I
decided that I was going to fight through.
I am glad that I stuck with it and FINALLY
got the results that I wanted.

Wow, Claire!!! This is stunning!! And PA is one of those states in which I saw numerous stone homes and to my eyes, they all - like this one - are beautiful.
I love this Claire. The shadows from the tree limbs and your choice of colors really make this painting sing.
I'm glad you didn't give up - it's a charming painting. Those shadows really make it sing.
I do know what you mean about abandoning work that isn't right for some reason, although my experience has shown that often it's the stuff I'm not happy with that sells the quickest!
Magnifique peinture!!!

Thank you, Sherry. Yes, you are right! Pennsylvania does have many old stone farmhouses, and this is one of them.
Thanks so much, Ann. Those shadows were the most difficult part of the painting, as well as what made me want to paint this scene the most!
Thank you, Gillian. I had to laugh a little when I read your comment because I have found that sometimes the paintings I like the least are also the first to sell!
