'Lilac Memories'
Oil 8 X 8
I always love when the lilacs bloom in April
because of the wonderful perfume they send
into the air. These are some of my own lilacs
that I have carried with me every time we have
moved. They include some stock from my
mother-in-law and also from a neighbor
who became my surrogate grandmother.
The vase is a cranberry opalescent hobnail vase
that belonged to my grandmother.

I have a student I want to show this painting to. She could benefit from seeing such a lovely piece where detail is minimal, yet carries the feeling of being totally detailed. The softness is so appealing. Very well done!
Thanks so much, Susan. When I first started painting lilacs, the temptation was to paint each and every blossom, but I learned that getting the masses correct and then accenting areas of blossoms worked out best for me. Hope your student likes the painting!
This is a beauty...love the warm and cool violets, the variety in the green shapes, and that vase, WOW! Outstanding!
Claire, this is so beautiful! I thought the glass was a milk glass type (the hobnails), and see I was wrong. LOL I so love lilacs; my favorite flower! I would be carrying these with me when I moved too!
Thanks so much, Angela!
Thanks, Sherry. You are right - this is a hobnail vase. The base is a clear deep rose (or cranberry) color, and the 'hobs' are an opalescent white.
It's soft and beautiful, with such a relaxing palette. Lovely.
Claire this is just stunning. My favorite flower in a beautiful vase. You paint lilacs with great skill. Wonderful!
Thanks so much, Kerri, Prabha nad Nancie. I appreciate everyone's comments.
Claire this is absolutely beautiful!
