Yesterday evening I went through the garden and picked
things I thought might get damaged by the winds and rain
that were predicted with the arrival of Hurricane Irene.
Among the things I had chosen to bring into the house were
some poblano peppers, which varied in color from
greens to very dark reds.

I was so glad I had chosen these peppers when I woke up
to find that Hurricane Irene had knocked out our electricity
around 4 a.m., and the other things I had planned to do today
were not possible without power, phone and/or water.
It was a perfect opportunity to just paint, which is
exactly what I did.  The power has finally come back on
12 hours later, so I guess I'll have to get those chores done...

So glad your power is back on, Claire. Having a day to just paint seems like heaven to me! Gorgeous colors, shapes, and shadows you've captured here! Hope the rest of your garden survived the storm!

Hi Claire, my claim to fame is that I have also experienced a hurricane in the USA!(IKE 2008)I am glad you saved these peppers and sat there calmly painting them and not stressing about fridge, dishwasher, lights, etc!Lovely work and your challenge received a good push forward!

Glad you got your power back. I'm in California and keep hearing about "Irene" on the news. I hope you're safe. I think it is just great that you painted and the work you did ...wow.

Thanks for your visit Claire and your kindest feed back.
I am glad I found yours today.. the work is amazing, the titles poetic, each tell a story! It is lovely that you made these peppers eternal by painting them..
I sister who lives next to your state also went through the hardship..she heated up her morning coffee with candles.. tough times make you innovative.. like you did with your painting :-)

You have been doing some awesome paintings Claire. I have not been too prolific this summer, too much going on. We did survive the hurricane, power outages and inland and west was bad, weird to think Vermont got it bad and not the coast. Hope your area was spared too!!

Oh, to be able to paint through a storm - that would be great! These are beauties! I love peppers of all kinds too! Hope your trees and buildings are still in tact...at least it's just a memory now..glad you found your survival skills!

Little pepper jewels! The colors, shapes, shadows and brush strokes are wonderful! The green one is my fav - love that whisper of red on the right side! What a great way to spend a dark stormy day!

Thanks, Sherry! I picked everything in my garden that I was afraid would not make it through the storm - everything that I left out there is doing wonderfully!

Thanks, Marie - I was stressing a bit, but the painting definitely helped.

Thanks so much, Dori - an earthquake and a hurricane all in the span of a week!

Thank you Padmaja - just got a fortune cookie that had the perfect quote: 'Tough times never last, tough people do'.

Thanks Mary Anne - there were some really old trees in our area that went down with this storm, but all in all we were so fortunate. I really feel for the people in Vermont - seems like they took a major blow.

Thank you, Hilda - I am glad that you spotted that bit of purple :)

Thank you, Rosemary. Some of the green ones I brought in from the storm are turning various shades of red and orange - there might be some more painting there!

That first painting looks so lifelike, I felt like I could reach thru the screen and grab it! Lovely work!
