Day 81

About a week and a half ago when we were under the
'Heat Dome' that graced us with temperatures over
100 degrees, I was doing everything I could to stay
cool and conserve energy, so I was painting in the house
instead of the studio.  At one point I had to run up to
the studio for some supplies, and just as I got to the bottom
of the steps leading up to the studio I happened
to see this strange little bird in the corner of our yard.
I slowly backed up and got my camera from the house,
and was quite surprised and pleased to find that he was
still there.  As I crept forward to take closer pictures,
another one of these birds flew out of our huge hemlock.
I turned to look up into the hemlock and saw three more
of these birds!

My immediate thought based on the curved neck,
long beak and legs on this bird was that it was in the
heron/cormorant family.  I got my pictures then went into
research what I had photographed, and learned that
these were juvenile green herons.  We had the
pleasure of seeing them again two days later - not
sure what brought them into my yard...perhaps
they heard that I was coming close to finishing my
100 Paintings in 100 Days Challenge 'Inspirations from
a Back Yard' Challenge and wanted to get painted!
I try not to disappoint...

What a wonderful happenstance. Great painting and addition to your backyard series.

Une très jolie capture... On sent un regard méfiant... Il n'a peut-être pas tord de se méfier des humains!
De très jolies nuances de couleurs.
gros bisous.

What a nice surprise and oh so beautiful addition to your paintings! Baby green herons? Now I have to look them up myself! I've only seen the white ones and the blue ones!
