REMEMBERING SUMMER
Original Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Remembering Summer'
Oil
20 x 16

This Summer, we had the pleasure of going to Port Royal, PA
to paint on the farm of Eric and Nancy Olson.   Before leaving,
we were allowed to take some of these gorgeous  sunflowers
home with us.  I took mine up to my studio, plopped them into
this old half-gallon canning jar and took loads of pictures for
when I would have time to paint this remembrance of summer.

INSPIRATION FROM A BACK YARD

'Inspirations from a Back Yard'

'Inspiration from a Back Yard'
Oil on Canvas

Day 100

What an adventure this has been...I have had so much fun,
and in the process of this challenge have also learned
so much more about painting.  I feel a sense of accomplishment
having finished this, but also a little sad that it has come to an end.

I want to thank all of the people who have so faithfully
followed this challenge, and have offered such encouragement
along the way!

Thanks also to the people who have given me reference
material from their own back yards that I could paint!

Special thanks to my beautiful daughter who gave me the
extra push I needed to go ahead and start the challenge even
though I wasn't sure I was ready, and who
also helped me come up with the idea for the final painting
of the challenge...of myself painting in my back yard.

I am working on another challenge that I want to start
next year...more information to follow!!!

BURNSIDE BRIDGE
Antietam National Battlefield
Original Plein Air Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Burnside Bridge'
(Antietam National Battlefield)
Oil
8 x 16

This is one of the plein air paintings that are currently in the
'Hallowed Ground - En Plein Air' exhibit until
November 27th at the Delaplaine Center in Frederick, MD.

It was such a hot, humid day when I was there painting at
Antietam, and also a day when millions of gnats were
out in full force.  The funny thing is that when you are really
into your painting, the heat and bugs just seem to
disappear...until you come back to the real world!

BABY PUMPKIN

'Baby Pumpkin'
Oil on Canvas
6 x 6

Day 99

It's hard to believe that I am almost at the end of my
'100 Paintings...' Challenge. There is a part of me that
is excited that I am right on the brink of finishing, and
then there is the part of me that is a bit sad to see it all end.

So...this next to last painting is of a baby pumpkin
that I placed in my black box with limited light.
I loved that the light was so subtle, and only caught
the back curve...

Only one more to go...

OPENING RECEPTION
'Hallowed Ground - En Plein Air' Exhibit
at the Delaplaine Center

Two years ago, I was approached by artists Peter Plant and Deb Richardson
and asked if I would join them in an exhibit that would display our
plein air paintings of Civil War Battlefields.
Yesterday, we had the Opening Reception for our work, and it was
quite exciting to see thefruits of our labor so beautifully displayed
on the walls of the Kline Gallery in the
Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center in Frederick, Maryland.

My thanks to Diane Sibbison, the exhibit coordinator, and to
Deb Richardson and Noralie Katsu for doing such a fantastic
job hanging the show. I also want to thank my family, friends,
fellow artists and my students who came to the exhibit - and also to
those who could not come, but sent such kind and supportive emails.
Thanks also to my daughter for taking pictures!

Here are some pictures from the exhibit:
Deb Richardson, Peter Plant and yours truly...

The Delaplaine Center is a phenomenal building dedicated
to the arts, and it was an honor to exhibit there.  Here are some of the
people who were attending the reception.

I was thrilled to meet  Marion MacKerer, a fellow artist who
has followed my blog for the past two years, and came to see
my paintings in person. Great meeting you, Marion!

FALL TREE TOPS

Day 98

I had planned to go out painting with my plein air group
today, but the morning started out grey and drizzly.
Not wanting to waste the morning, I started painting on
some projects I already have in the works.  By noon, the wind had
kicked the clouds out of the way, and the sun had popped out,
so I decided to paint the tree tops of the beautiful
maple trees in my yard.  Even with all of the snow we
got last weekend, there were still a lot of
wonderful, colorful leaves to paint!

Only two more to go...

AUTUMN'S HARVEST
by Claire Beadon Carnell
100 Paintings in 100 Days Challenge
'Inspirations from a Back Yard'
97/100

'Autumn's Harvest'
Oil on Canvas
6 x 6
97/100

Day 97

This past weekend, we got whammied with an early snow storm
that knocked out our electricity for almost three days. My
ultimate goal was to try to stay as warm as I could, and so
when I got enough light to paint, I thought this gala apple with
a nice warm-colored background would be great.
The only problem was that while I was painting, I kept
thinking what delicious warm applesauce this apple would make...
or an apple crisp straight from the oven...or a hot apple pie...
All things that would have required electricity...

Of course as soon as the electricity came on, my priorities
shifted from thoughts of warm apple deliciousness
to just getting a nice WARM shower!
