REDBUDS BY DEVIL'S DEN - REPOST
Gettysburg National Battlefield
An Original Plein Air Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Redbuds by Devil's Den'

I have had several requests that I post just the painting, so
here it is.  I pulled it out of my pochade box and signed it.
I have to say that seeing it made me smile as I remembered
the beautiful day of painting!

Today was one of those perfect Spring days.  The
temperatures were in the high 50's, the air literally sparkled
with light, and the redbuds were in full bloom on the
Gettysburg Battlefield. Members from our plein air group, the
Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters, painted
on the battlefield this morning, and this is my painting
right before I packed up and headed home for the day.

I am so blessed to be able to follow my passion.

What a beautiful setting..I remember last year's awesome paintings from the battlegrounds. You have an awesome opportunity to be able to do this. This painting looks so interesting, the view you composed...

Thank you, Sherry. We have so many neat places to paint around here - especially the battlefield. I was so glad that we got there to paint the redbuds while they were blooming!

Thanks, Pattie! I rather liked the contrast between those huge boulders and the soft blooms.

Dear Claire,
It is great to see a painting of such a beautiful place..I visited there once and I will never forget the sense of awe I had there---I knew and sensed that I was on "hallowed ground". Beautiful work.

I love seeing the painting and seeing it in the Pochade box! the pop of colors behind the rocks really gives the piece dimension. Lovely!

Thank you, Celeste. It definitely is a very special place - such a contrast of today's beautiful landscape and the tragedy and loss of life 150 years ago. it is one of my very favorite places to paint.

Thanks so much, Maria - I like to show the painting as it is being painted on site!

Thanks, Hilda. I am working on another piece from that day in Gettysburg up in my studio...it's amazing where these redbuds will take root!
