Day 17

I purposely grow plants in my garden to draw in the
bees. We have had such a shortage of honeybees
over the past few years because
of the mites that were getting into their hives and killing
them off, so I try to do whatever I can to help them
regenerate and increase their population.

This also means letting things go to seed, like my chives.
The bumblebees swarm to the flowers, and this little
guy was about half drunk on the nectar
he was drinking from the chive blossom!

Drunken bees!

(The chive flowers are what I wait for... they are beautiful in the salad and quite vigorous in the mouth!)

great image, Claire!

I love that you take care with nature as you do Claire. This painting is beautiful, the color spot on.

I never thought about letting things go to seed, for the BEES! Good thought. I like to be a thoughtful gardener, such as I am... ;)
I love chive flowers, and have often thought of painting them. Now you've given me a good goal! I have painted bees on flowers and fruit before - one time at an art show someone tried to 'shoo' one away from the painting! (really, it wasn't THAT good... ;})
