'Along the Monocacy River'
Oil on Linen Panel
12 x 9
Yesterday I was on the Monacacy Battlefield in Frederick, MD
painting with fellow artists Deborah Lovelace Richards
and Peter Plant. The three of us are going to have an exhibit of
our work at the Delaplaine Art Center in Frederick this November

our work at the Delaplaine Art Center in Frederick this November
that will consist of plein air paintings we have done
of Civil War Battlefields - "Hallowed Ground - En Plein Air".
It was a fun day - not nearly as hot as was anticipated,
and there was shade and an occasional breeze along
the water which made for some pleasant painting.

I just took my painting out of my pochade box tonight and decided
that I am going to leave it alone for now. My view was of
a tributary feeding into the Monocacy, and the sunlight was
shining down through the trees and illuminating that little
rise in the middle of the water. If I do anything, I may paint a
few more highlights on the bright tree on the left.
What do you think?

Claire this is lovely. Don't work it too much! A few light highlights on the furtherest out leaves above the illuminated rise sounds perfect!
I think, "Leave it!" LOL That tree is light enough showing the sunshine on its leaves. This is a real beauty, Claire! I can almost hear that little stream babbling away. Your day sounds like sheer joy and I so wish I could get to Fredericksburg to see the show!
Your day of painting sounded wonderful. Love this painting and best of luck with your coming show.
