SUSQUEHANNA BLUES
An Original Plein Air
Oil Painting
by Claire Beadon Carnell

'Susquehanna Blues'
Plein Air
Oil
6 x 8

I never thought this painting was going to happen today.  It
was my first time to paint in Marysville along the
Susquehanna River, and I had the directions written down
to help me find my way.  Unfortunately, the directions did
not include the fact that a critical road was blocked due to
construction (and my GPS decided not to work).
 Miraculously, after back-tracking and
making a few u-turns, I was able to find the painting spot!

Because I had an appointment at 11:30, and
didn't get to start  painting until 10:00, that meant I had
only a little over an hour to paint and clean up and head
back down the road.  I think that worked to my advantage
with this little painting - I didn't have time to 'fuss', and I
am actually happy with the results.

Here are some of the other painters at work - everyone
was working intensely on their paintings.

Thank you, Hilda! It really is a beautiful place - the historic Rockville Bridge was directly behind me when I was painting.

Looks like you all were painting next to a boat launch. Funnily enough, my first thought was that I'd love to be in a tiny boat (a row boat is fine) just meandering those small patches of island or even just sitting still in the middle of them all. A beautiful little riverscape! I think PA is one gorgeous state!

My recent vacation of ten days made me realize that retirement is in the future and will enable me to paint in more places with the SVPAP. All I have to do is determine the date!

This one's a gem, Claire. The pastels and blues are beautiful.

Wonderful soft atmosphere - beautiful palette! Claire, you are amazing! With an appointment lingering over my head, I'm sure my car would have turned around and headed back home! Look what I would have missed. Thanks for sharing!
