'Rice Bowl and Spoon 2'
Leslie Saeta's Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge
Day Eleven
Oil on Panel
6 x 6

I am loving this challenge except for some frustration
in attempting to photograph the wet paintings because of
the glare I am getting. I did another version of this
painting because I wanted to see what it would
look like with the bowl being larger, I find that there
are things I like about both of them, so I am very
glad I painted both. Here is a picture of them
side by side. Which one do you like best?
All of my paintings for this Challenge will be done in a 6 x 6 format,
and my main goal while painting from life
is to LOOSEN UP and USE MORE PAINT...
something which will only benefit my work.

It depends. If I'm having a bowl of cereal in the morning, the bowl on the right. If I'm having my nightly bowl of ice cream, the bowl on the left. :) But both very nicely done.
Somehow missed the pear below! Well done and your painting of light is fabulous, Claire!
P. S. Love this version too but I think like the first one a bit better. Not sure why, partially the background, partially the composition.
This is a lovely little still life, and I do like it better smaller. I find the quiet empty space balances the soft rich blue of the bowl better. Both are exceptionally painted.
I like both of them...I have been drawn to this painting. I think I like the first, smaller one best.
Claire I am having the exact same problem with photographing. I did my [ainting yesterday (night) but did not post yet b/c of said reason, very frustrating. However I like both your paintings, but the larger bowl just a bit better. Have a great weekend!
Love your bowl. Well done!
I am feeling your pain with the camera. Between the gray winter days and the glare of the wet paint...I find myself doing everything but standing on my head trying to get a good picture! Love both paintings but I think I like the larger bowl best :)
I love them both, but would vote for the larger one.
Great job!
thanks, Dave! That's usually the way I determine which size bowl to use too :)
Thank you Sherry, for both of your comments!
Thanks so much, Debra. I find that as I study them more, I like the first one a bit better for the same reasons you have mentioned.
Sunny, I even put my painting under the table in the studio (to block all top light) and tried to take a picture. I am thinking the Liquin is giving the painting a shininess that is causing most of my problem.
thanks so very much, Susan!
Thank you, Dottie! I think I am going to stop using the Liquin, in the hopes that it will stop some of the shininess.
Thank you, Fay!
GREAT job with the 30 day challenge...love this!
There are things I like about both of them. I like them both... I could never choose! Really nice.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog!
