'Seckel Pears on Depression Glass'
Leslie Saeta's Thirty Paintings in Thirty Days Challenge
Day Twenty Eight
Oil on Panel

I recently was told by a friend that some green
depression class contains Uranium. Apparently. when
you put the glass under a black light, it glows...
I know that in certain light this plate has a certain
neon green light around the edges...so I am wondering
if it may be throwing off some radioactivity!
Regardless, I know that something has seriously affected
my brain, or I wouldn't have chosen such a complex dish
to paint twenty eight days into the challenge!!!!
All of my paintings for this Challenge will be done in a 6 x 6 format,
and my main goal while painting from life
is to LOOSEN UP and USE MORE PAINT...
something which will only benefit my work.

You are so right, tough subject to paint and especially on the 28th day. Just shows that you are improving with each new painting to tackle such a challenging composition and subject. Love the pears and the 'glow' of the green glass. Good luck on the last two!
Lovely pairing of pears and glass! You have a way with color combos.
I have 4 pieces of depression glass just like that. Love the painting. reminds me so much of my aunt who used to hav the plates. She always artfully arranged nice fruit on them, strawberries and cream, pears form her garden. Lovely painting and a wonderful memory!
Aha - the challenge was there and you tackled it superbly! Nice blue light on the shadow. Uranium? Really? I often think bad things about my lead-crystal goblets on my Tgiving dinner table..oh well...still here, right? Getting ready to do the '30 in 30 DONE and HAPPY dance' - are you?
You did GREAT on this!
You have an amazing eye for observation, because the glass plate with the light passing through it couldn't have been better, a perfect score!
This is a beautiful painting. Your shadows are as lovely as the the objects. I have to ask you if you feel you have achieved your goal of what you wanted to accomplish in this challenge?
Interesting bit of info on the depression glass. Who knew? Love the way the pears fill the plate. Gorgeous painting as always, Claire.
I love this painting, Claire! The pears are so perfectly painted and love the shadows from the pears and the glass plate...
