TOY HORSE
An Original Oil Painting

'Toy Horse'

Day Twenty Three

I picked up this hand-crafted horse years ago, and
he has lived the last thirteen years up in my studio
just waiting to be painted.   As one of my students
pointed out, 'he's a horse that can't decide whether he
is a horse or a cow' (because of those black spots)!
I'm rather partial to his stylized look...

All of my paintings for this Challenge will be done in a 6 x 6 format,
and my main goal while painting from life
is to LOOSEN UP and USE MORE PAINT...
something which will only benefit my work.

Claire - you have never been out of subjects with all the cool things you have lurking about - this one is so cool - love the composition and simplicity of it.

Rita and I love this little horse. He's a pinto, not a cow!

Hi, Claire - I just had some fun looking through your blog and love your work. The 30 paintings in 30 days challenge seems to be, well, quite a challenge! And you are making the most of it. I love the toy horse as I am partial to horses but all of your subjects are interesting and well done!

I've always wondered how kids could play with toys like this one since they don't move or do anything. Can you believe that after all these years it just hit me? Imagination. That is all it takes. I've so little of it. You've painted this beautifully, Claire.
