Two years ago, I decided to plant strawberries
in one of the raised beds of my vegetable
garden. The twenty plants did well - our first crop
was not large, but we had some wonderful, sweet
strawberries. I was so looking forward to the
next growing season, when I just knew we
were going to have a bumper crop of berries...
Well, much to my surprize, when I went out
that next year to see how my strawberry plants
were faring, I was shocked to see that all of the
plants were gone...and was even more shocked
to find my husband had pulled all of them out
and had disposed of them because he thought
they were weeds...
But miracles do happen...apparently two of the
plants got tossed into one of the other raised beds
and they took root. Both plants put out
berries, so we might even have enough for some
strawberry shortcake...if I decide to share them
with the culprit...

I love the flower peaking out. The berry looks good enough to eat. Great job! Funny story too!
That is a funny story. Irina told me Thursday at our paint out, that we must keep the biggest predator out of our gardens....our husbands! LOL Great painting!

I did have to build a little cage out of netting to protect my strawberries - there are other varmints in there after them now!

Claire, I love your strawberry! I can never seem to paint one with all of the little seeds, it always turns out to look like a polka-dotted strawberry, lol.. but yours is just perfect!!! Enjoyed your story too, since I've done the same thing with other plants in my own garden!

Oh I love the little white blossom, so sweet and I like the title of your challenge paintings from the back yard. Isn't that where our heart really is.
Claire, Kudos to you for persevering with your quest. I can imagine how your mouth watered for some fresh strawberry shortcake. What a let down. Stuff happens though and we just have to pick ourselves up and make something out of it like anticipation of the 2 surviving plants supplying enough for this year's fresh dessert. Neat painting of the strawberry.
